26 Hours
26 hours after taking off from SFO and after two stops, one in Hong Kong and one in Singapore I am finally here. I believe it is Sunday evening, but I am not really sure. We are staying in Chiang Mai tonight and 4 of us will head to lampang in the morning (?). It kind of seems like more time has actually passed since I left for the airport Friday night and it is now Sunday...
The lesson of the day:
"Sawatdii kha", which is frequently used for greeting people anytime. The word " sa-wat-dii" means to "hello". The word "kha" is added after this word for politeness if the speaker is female, but males will use the word "krab".

Hey H, sorry we missed your send off. Glad you are safely on the ground there!
ReplyDeleteOne of our favorite Thai restaurants is called SaWaDee, I wonder of that is a phonetic use of 'hello'?!
Love you,

ReplyDeleteWhat is the weather like there? The iphone says thundershowers. Did you get some sleep after the long trip?

Your dad gave us the link to your blog, so we're following along. We wish you the best and look forward to learning more interesting and useful information such as how to say "welcome" (thanks for including the syllables) and the nuances of polite, respectful conversation. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSawahdii kha, Hannah!
ReplyDeleteI finally figured out my blog password and am catching up on thunderstorms and elephant rides --- wow! I can't remember the last time rode on something with legs. Not a Zeus bolt in sight. We are gearing up for our June bbq and Nathan has me hooked on Game of Thrones, which takes my mind off how much I miss you.
Enjoy and thrive!
love
